Previous prediction for Granny Nominations 2024
Each year, the Recording Academy—an association made up of industry insiders with a background in music—presents the Grammy Awards. For many years, secret nomination review committees selected the nominees for Album of the Year; however, in 2021, the academy eliminated nearly all of those committees, leaving the membership at large to make all of the decisions without the ability to override them. See our most recent racetrack odds, which are derived from users' collective predictions for the Gold Derby, by scrolling down. We will be updating this list during the season because those odds are subject to change at all times. However, not all in the industry have positive feelings towards the Grammys. For example, The Weeknd did not receive a single nomination at the 2021 Oscars, even with an album called "After Hours" that received critical acclaim and a song called "Blinding Lights" that became Billboard's 2021 number-one single. The Weeknd accused corruption; Drake and Halsey have also expressed outrage. The Weeknd made the decision to abstain from all award shows. Drake has steadfastly refused to be taken into consideration. Even accusations of dubious voting procedures have come from academy members.
The Grammys increased the number of nominations for the Big Four categories to ten in 2022—the first year without a committee. Against albums with far greater commercial success, Jon Batiste's R&B album "We Are" emerged as the winner, surprising everyone. Voters won't always choose the most well-liked song on the lineup, it seemed, even in the absence of committees to promote obscure recordings. The 2023 Oscars were likewise unexpected, with Harry Styles ("Harry's House") emerging victorious over Adele ("30") and Beyonce ("Renaissance" as the presumptive favorites.
The complete list of nominees for the 67th Grammy Awards has been released, with SZA leading the pack with nine nominations. In the race for record of the year, SZA will face competition from Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Boygenius, Miley Cyrus, Jon Batiste, Victoria Monét, and Billie Eilish, among other notable nominees.
The eight contenders for album of the year include two albums by Lana Del Rey and Janelle Monae in addition to six holdovers from the record of the year category: SZA, Swift, Rodrigo, Boygenius, Cyrus, and Batiste.
Following SZA's lead of nine nominations, three musicians—Monét, Phoebe Bridgers (six nominations for her work with Boygenius, one for a collaboration with SZA), and mixing engineer Serban Ghenea—tie for seventh place. Next, eight musicians—producer Jack Antonoff, Batiste, Boygenius, Brandy Clark, Cyrus, Eilish, Rodrigo, and Swift—are tied for the most nominations with six each.
Given that nine female performers received nine nominations or more, and that Batiste is the only male performer to do so, it is evident that the music industry is currently a woman's domain. The statistics continue to show an imbalance: Out of 24 nominations, only three went to a recording by a male artist in the top three general-field categories. Those three were all for Batiste, who may as well be the Last Man on Earth. Come on, guys?
In a livestream rollout, Recording Academy Chairman Harvey Mason Jr. and special guests revealed a chosen group of nominations. The awards ceremony is scheduled for February 4, 2024, and CBS will televise it live. If "Midnights" takes first place in the album of the year category in February, Swift could break the record. This would be her fourth victory; at the moment, she shares a tie with Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra, and Stevie Wonder for the most album wins, each with three. With the recently revealed nominations, Swift broke a record by becoming the first person to receive seven nominations for song of the year.
With 12 nominations for the soundtrack album or its songs and one more for the Mark Ronson/Andrew Wyatt instrumental score, "Barbie" received as much attention at the Grammys as it probably will at the Oscars.
"What Was I Made For?" It also appeared in two of the major marquee categories, record of the year and song of the year. "Dance the Night" by Dua Lipa received a top nomination for song of the year. There wasn't much room for anything else in the category of songs composed for visual media: out of five songs, four are from "Barbie," which includes the songs by Eilish and Lipa mentioned earlier in addition to "Barbie World" and I'm Just Ken.
Morgan Wallen's "One Thing at a Time" album and "Last Night" single, which were the biggest hits on the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts this year, received less love from the Grammys than they did from fans. Wallen was not included in the running for any awards; instead, the three writers who wrote "Last Night" received the only nomination for best country song.
The nominations' biggest surprise was Victoria Monét's seven, which nobody had predicted. Read here for a detailed list of all the surprises and snubs this year. Harvey Mason Jr., the head of the Grammys, expressed his opinions about the 2024 nominees here.
Next year's Grammy Awards will be dominated by female performers, with Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, Victoria Monét, and SZA leading the way.
With nine nominations overall for her album SOS and its songs, which span pop, rap, and R&B genres, SZA has received the most. The singer has received 14 nominations for Grammy awards; she has only won one. Along with Billie Eilish, boygenius, Jon Batiste, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and Victoria Monét, she is a competitor in the record of the year category.
Following with seven nominations apiece are mixing engineer Serban Ghenea, Phoebe Bridgers, and Victoria Monét. In addition, Monét is a nominee for best new artist, sharing the category with Ice Spice and Jelly Roll.
With Batiste being the only male nominee in both the song and record of the year categories, the field is nearly entirely female. In 2022, Batiste took home five major Grammy awards.
With six nominations, Swift has a chance to create Grammy history if she wins album of the year, becoming the first artist to win the award four times. Six nominations have been extended to Rodrigo, who has won three Grammy awards already, for her album GUTS and the song Vampire.
With 12 nominations and prominent features on songs by Eilish, Nicki Minaj, and Dua Lipa, the Barbie album has also performed well. Four of the five nominees for best song from visual media are soundtrack tracks.
Meryl Streep, Michelle Obama, Bernie Sanders, and Dave Chappelle are among the nominees for comedy, audiobook, and storytelling awards, among others, outside the music industry.
Three new categories have been added for this year: best pop dance recording, best alternative jazz album, and best African music performance. Troye Sivan and Kylie Minogue are two of the nominees for the latter award.
One prominent omission is the country music performer Morgan Wallen, who received only one nomination for best country song on Last Night. This year, the song has been at No. 1 in the US for 16 weeks.
With her four wins at the 65th Grammy Awards earlier this year, Beyoncé surpassed all other artists in Grammy history with her record of 32 awards. For Harry's House, Harry Styles won album of the year.
The 66th Grammy Awards are scheduled for February 4; the presenter has not yet been revealed.
