Bangladesh's victory was greatly aided by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The all-rounder contributed to Bangladesh keeping control of the game throughout by taking three wickets and scoring 57 (73). The Afghan fielders offered Mehidy two early reprieves, which helped a little bit as well. Najibullah dropped him at point when he was batting at 16, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman dropped him at third base when he was at 22.
Mehidy utilized the wasted opportunities to great effect and went on to reach his half-century in 58 balls. When he was stranded LBW on 50, he was fortunate for the third time because DRS saved him. Rahmat Shah subsequently grabbed a one-handed stunner at mid-off and Mehidy was eventually removed for 57(73). For the third wicket, he and Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 97 runs.
Najmul, on the other hand, scored 59 runs off just 83 deliveries to help Bangladesh win the match with 15.2 overs remaining.
Prior to this, Afghanistan got off to a respectable start thanks to an opening wicket partnership of 47 runs between Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. When Shakib dismissed Ibrahim for 22(25) in the ninth over, Bangladesh made their first progress. The run-rate then fell, leading to more gains after Shakib got rid of Rahmat Shah for 18(25).
Mehidy dismissed Hashmatullah Shahidi, the captain, for 18 (38), and Mustafizur Rahman got rid of Gurbaz in the following over for 47 (62). Shakib dismissed Najibullah Zadran for 5(13), then Taskin Ahmed dismissed Mohammad Nabi for 6 off 12, causing Afghanistan to lose two more wickets in quick succession.
Azmatullah Omarzai's final few hits, which helped Afghanistan reach a respectable 156, limited the tail's ability to contribute much. Prior to being thrown out by Shoriful Islam, Azmatullah had scored 22 points off of 20 balls.
